Why A Jeep?

There are many reasons why someone may choose to purchase the ever-loved Jeep, and even more ways to customize one.

Waterfall To many off-roaders, a Jeep is the best choice for a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Decades of modifications, both professional and homegrown, coupled with its military heritage, make it one of the best on the block; especially when you can purchase and modify one for a relatively low cost. Besides, isn't a Jeep more likely to get you where you are going, rather than leave you stranded?

Although many Jeep owners seem to prefer it, you don't always have to take the boulder-strewn, washed-out, undercarriage-shredding trail to get where you are going. In fact, a lot of places have an unpaved road leading right to your destination. But, for those times when the "easy way" may be inaccessible (or even nonexistent), your vehicle needs to be equipped and up to the task of getting you there - and back - in one piece.

Creek When it comes to upgrades, most Jeep owners prefer to start with the obvious - tires. And why not? Larger tires will probably get you to more places than any other single upgrade. Which type of tire is right for you depends on what type of off-roading you are likely to do. In most cases, a tire with an all-terrain type tread is ideal. For those off-roading in wet, snowy, or muddy areas, a mud-terrain tire is usually better.

What comes next is be up to you - and your budget (or that large rock you could not get around!). The cost for lockers, rocker-panel protection, wheels, and winches can add up pretty fast. Be sure to include storage areas for additional water and fuel, too. And always take a camera, you never know when it will come in handy.

By the way, when you finish building up your Jeep, send us a picture!
