~ Day One ~

Looking for the "Middle Of Nowhere"? Well, we've been there! Approximately 150 miles south of Moab, Utah, lies a 3+ rated trail called Hole In The Rock.

The following pages contain a photo-journal of our Fun Run trip over sixty miles of dusty Utah desert. Our three-day journey began in Blanding, where we met with our trail guide, Frenchie, the morning of April 3rd and started the 75-mile road-trip to the trailhead.

Our day continued with a quick stop for provisions and fuel, then a couple of breaks to see some historic Anasazi indian dwellings. Our last stop before hitting the dirt was the Cal Black Memorial Airport to air-down, disconnect our swaybars, and top off the gas tanks before getting on the trail.

A short way into the desert, we made a quick stop to complete our first trail-fix - a pair of broken leaf-spring mounts on a 1970 CJ5. We hooked up three batteries in series for a weld-job that would last until the owner made it home to Minnesota.

The remainder of the trip to the camping area was completed without incident as everyone got a feel for the trail. There were only a few, easy obstacles on the first day, and even our new-to-us, bone-stock 1999 WJ made it through with nothing more than a few scratches thanks to Frenchie's expert spotting.
