Jacobs Pro Street and Ultra Coil

First impressions

Packed with care by the folks at Jacobs Electronics, my complete Pro-Street System arrived without a scratch. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING in this kit is professionally manufactured and packaged. The instructions are thorough, and mounting options are carefully explained.
Step 1
Before anything else, unhook the battery - this is very important. Next, locating a spot in the cramped under-hood region of the 4.0L with A/C is a chore. I had to be downright creative about how I ran the wiring and placement of the Ultra Coil and Energy Pak. I found a spot for the Ultra Coil between the fuse box and the fender. The Energy Pak would have to go between the washer-fluid resevoir and the fuse box.
Step 2
Let the fun begin! The first thing I replaced was the spark plugs, with a set of Champion Truck plugs. Remember, use only non platinum-core type spark plugs with Jacobs' systems. Start with a .055 gap, and work down (to a smaller gap) from there.

I then replaced my aging Accel plug wires with the provided Jacobs 8.5mm wires. Make sure to check the old spark plugs for any abnormal signs, such as excessive carbon deposits, etc.

Step 3
Next I mounted the Ultra-Coil (the order in which you mount the components doesn't matter). It was simple; I picked the spot, drilled 2 holes in the fender, and mounted it. It is close enough to the ground wire for the battery, so I just used that for the Ultra-Coil's ground wire. Then I modified the provided "L" bracket, and bolted it onto the Power Pak, and mounted that assembly onto the bracket that holds the fuse-box and the radiator overflow bottle. Simple enough so far.
Step 4: Running the wires
This took some creativity, since the wires are longer than the space I mounted them in. Run them where you can, and then secure them away from moving parts with zip-ties (there are a plenty provided with the kit). Then hook up the positive/negative wires to the battery. Install the fuse, and you're all set. We are now finished with installation.
Overview
This is a simple upgrade. With basic hand tools and a little patience, it can be done in under 2 hours by even the not-so mechanically inclined. Jacobs has definitely gone out of their way to make installation as easy as possible.

Even after hearing Mac rave about the Jacobs system in his TJ, I was still skeptical: That much difference? His is a 4cyl and mine's a 6. So it was time to test it out. After firing up the XJ, I didn't notice an immediate difference. Test drive time! I took it off the block over to a nearby highway, and stepped on it: Is this kit legal? Any and all hesitation upon acceleration that I had before is gone! This kit flies! I can't wait to install the accessory kit!
